Tela analysed the top 50 pharmaceutical companies’ advertising efforts by reviewing the Google Ads Transparency Centre. This involved examining the number of adverts they are funding and the topics these adverts cover. Below is a list of pharmaceutical companies within the sector that utilise Google Ads, detailing the number of adverts each runs, the various topics covered and links to their Google Ads Transparency accounts.
The following pharmaceutical companies were found not to have any active Google Ads campaigns in the Google Ads Transparency Centre: Vectura Group plc, Oxford Biomedica plc, Shield Therapeutics plc, Verona Pharma plc, Synairgen plc, Futura Medical plc, Summit Therapeutics plc, Redx Pharma plc, Genus plc, Allergy Therapeutics plc, Advanced Medical Solutions, Consort Medical plc, Bioventix plc, Cambridge Cognition Holdings, Destiny Pharma plc, e-Therapeutics plc, Evgen Pharma plc, Genedrive plc, Mereo BioPharma Group plc, OptiBiotix Health plc, Physiomics plc, Renalytix plc, Sareum Holdings plc, Scancell Holdings plc, Syncona Ltd, Tiziana Life Sciences plc, ValiRx plc, Arecor Therapeutics plc and Poolbeg Pharma plc. This suggests that these companies currently do not utilise Google Ads as part of their digital advertising strategy.
The variety and volume of ads reveal how pharmaceutical companies use digital advertising to reach diverse audiences, from healthcare professionals to patients. Some focus on niche topics such as poultry disease or antibody development, while others promote broad wellness and medical solutions.
Interestingly, the largest companies tend to have more extensive campaigns, reflecting their wider range of products and services. These ads not only promote treatments but also highlight clinical research, sustainability efforts and health education.
The research shows that only 19 of the top 50 pharmaceutical companies are currently utilising Google Ads as part of their digital marketing strategies. This indicates that a significant portion of the sector is yet to explore the potential benefits of targeted online advertising.
Given the wide reach and diverse targeting options Google Ads offers, other companies could potentially enhance their visibility, patient engagement and overall brand awareness by incorporating digital advertising into their marketing mix. As the pharmaceutical landscape becomes increasingly competitive, adopting such strategies may prove essential for future growth and success.
