Each year Tela creates a piece of research showing the top 50 UK law firm’s website colour usage. The content is created with the intention of allowing the website colours to be compared and contrasted so we can see what is currently trending in terms of website design in the legal industry. The research has now been updated to display the top 50 UK law firm’s website colour usage for 2018.

Results: 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2021

When comparing the results to last years, you can see that previously there were a few shades of dark greens being used in the law firm’s website homepages. However, fast forward to 2018, it is clear that there has been a bit of a shift in the colours that have been used. The various shades of green have now shifted more towards a range of brown shades. There is now very little green being used in the top 50 law firm website homepages.

Red still seems to be a leading colour, with 2018 introducing even more tones. The shades of red being used are all very vibrant and would definitely draw in the eye – especially when used to highlight a call to action.

If you look back at the 2016 results it becomes obvious that a significant amount of top 50 law firms are now using purple shades within their web design. These are also accompanied by the range of bold pinks that move on into reds. However, this range of colours have remained very similar to the 2016 results.

It is clear that blue is still a strong colour choice in website design, with that being the most popular colour in 2016, 2017 and 2018. It is a fairly neutral colour that remains a trending colour in the legal services sector, as seen with the top 50 barristers chambers results for 2018.
