Each year, tela carries out research into the colour usage across the websites of the UK’s top 50 barristers’ chambers. We capture screenshots of each chambers’ homepage; extract the colours used within the design and collate the results into our colour analysis tool for visual comparison.
The visualisation brings together the complete range of colours from all 50 chambers on a single screen, making it easy to see the most commonly used colours and how they are applied. Users can also filter the data to view individual chambers and explore how each approaches colour within its website design.
By repeating this research each year, we can track how colour preferences change over time and identify design trends across barristers’ chambers websites. Below are the findings from our 2026 analysis.
RESULTS: 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | 2026
Our results show that cool-toned colours continue to dominate, with blues remaining the clear favourite across the sector. Green is second most used with many chambers using darker greens, teals and olive shades over brighter hues. In contrast, warm colours such as red, orange and yellow remain the least common and are typically used as accents rather than primary brand colours. The research also highlights a strong reliance on neutral colours, including white, grey, charcoal and black; which provide clean, understated foundations for website design and reinforce the professionalism and authority associated with barristers’ chambers.
Compared to last year’s research, our data shows a slightly stronger emphasis on deep blues, dark neutrals and subtle purple tones, while brighter colours and warmer shades appear less frequently. Overall, the findings suggest that chambers continue to favour restrained, timeless colour palettes, with only subtle shifts in colour trends from last year.
