Law firm website colour research 2026

Monday 27th July 2026

Each year, Tela analyses the websites of the UK’s top law firms to identify colour trends across the legal sector.

We collect the data by capturing homepage screenshots from each website, extracting the colours used throughout the page and compiling the results into our colour analysis tool for visual comparison. Our visualisation displays the full range of colours found across all 50 websites on a single screen, making it easy to identify dominant colour palettes and design trends. Users can filter the data to explore individual law firms and compare each firm’s approach to colour and branding.

This annual research provides a unique snapshot of how colour is being used across law firm websites and highlights how design trends continue to evolve in the legal sector.

RESULTS: 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | 2026

Our annual analysis of 50 leading law firm websites shows that cool toned colours continue to dominate the legal sector, with blues, teals and purples remaining the most popular choices. These colours help convey professionalism, trust and expertise, making them a natural fit for law firm branding.

There is a trend towards darker, more restrained colour palettes. Many firms are building their websites around neutral foundations such as charcoal, black, deep navy and white and using stronger colours more selectively to draw attention to key content and calls to action. Teal continues to grow in popularity, offering a modern alternative to traditional corporate blue, while purple and plum tones are appearing more frequently as firms seek subtle ways to differentiate themselves. In contrast, warm colours such as red and orange remain limited and green continues to be relatively uncommon across the sector.

If we compare the research we completed last year, there is still a strong preference for cool colours. While the 2025 websites featured a broader mix of greens, warmer tones and lighter shades, the 2026 data is more concentrated around blues, teals and purples, with greater use of dark shades and neutral colours. This suggests that law firms are becoming more selective in their use of colour, favouring simpler palettes that create a cleaner, more modern and professional online presence.
