Barristers Chambers Colour Research 2025

Friday 14th November 2025

Over the last 9 years, Tela has conducted annual research on the use of colour across the top 50 barristers’ chambers websites. By capturing and analysing homepage screenshots for these 50 sites, the team compiles a yearly report to determine the most prevalent colours.

Our tool displays the full spectrum of colours used by all 50 chambers on a single screen. For those seeking more specific insights, a filtering option at the top of the page allows users to isolate and explore individual chambers’ colour schemes, offering a closer look at how each website’s palette contributes to its overall design.

This ongoing research serves as a key resource for monitoring trends in colour usage within barristers’ chambers websites. For more detailed insights, refer to our most recent update for 2025 below.

RESULTS: 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025

Tela’s 2025 analysis of colour usage across the homepages of 50 barristers’ chambers highlights a continuation of certain long-term preferences, alongside some notable shifts.

Blues and navies remain dominant, with deep navy and cooler mid-blues continuing to anchor many chambers’ palettes. However, this year also shows a broader spread of lighter blue shades, suggesting a move toward fresher, more contemporary tones within this classic spectrum.

Greens have expanded further, continuing the trend first seen in recent years. Both muted sage greens and stronger forest tones are prominent, while bright turquoise-inflected greens stand out more clearly than before. These hues add vibrancy without straying from a professional aesthetic.

Reds and oranges have made a modest comeback in 2025. While still less common overall than blues and greens, the presence of bold crimsons and warmer terracottas is stronger than in 2024, signalling a willingness among some chambers to adopt more assertive, energetic colours.

Purples remain in use but at a reduced scale. The once popular dark purples are now outnumbered by softer lilac and mauve tones, which are applied sparingly for a modern, elegant effect.

Neutrals such as dark greys, near blacks and muted earthy browns continue to underpin many websites. These provide balance against the bolder accents, reinforcing the preference for sophisticated, understated design.

2025 Summary

Chambers maintain their preference for timeless, professional tones while selectively experimenting with brighter greens, reds and oranges to bring distinction and energy to their digital presence.
